Books
by Mark Olynyk
1. Books speak volumes in the silence
of my solitary rooms
like bricks in the wall of learning
ordering mind into categories of reason.
armies of the intellect
stage a ghostly occupation.
Books are spineless oracles
read by worms in the catacombs of time.
where the living mingles with the dead
and monuments to dreams
are found inside a paper cage
bio-degradable.
Books are flowing dialogue streams
stealing scenes from thin air.
commentators of description
wrote ambivalent endings.
my book shelves are sagging
under the weight of the centuries.
2. The expression of the author
using paragraph blocks
built into chapters
housing a work in progress.
the translation of his percepts
into concrete images.
Adhering to the outline of the plot
is a novel idea.
sentenced to write phrases in verse
painting the scenery.
portraying the protagonist
overcoming the internal conflict
of his demons.
The simplicity of art
lies between the covers
of his literary contribution.
a craft of controversy
is picturing words.
a written exposition
evaluates objects of his interest.
3. Great thinkers carry the torch
into the cave of universal problems.
proposing solutions
by extrapolating data.
they draw their own conclusions
with discourse and diatribes
on the state of humankind.
communicators of encapsulated views
found in the encyclopedia of man
compose a masterpiece of history.
An epic battle rages
between the beam of knowing
and the prince of darkness.
burning books with fires of ignorance
like the library of Alexandria
gutting civilization.
