It’s Beautiful to See Through the Eyes of the Sky
by Walter William Safar
You know, my life, how hard it is to serve one’s purpose in the dark.
Invisible to the stars
and always chased by shadows
– left behind by men –
I am escaping my own screams of solitude
into an even deeper, stranger darkness
(because wise men say that screams die in the dark).
And while the stars proudly march the skies,
like silver soldiers,
I am only looking for a place in the dark
and cowardly courting my own shadow
with the frantic hope
that it shall open your doors to me
and save me from the darkness,
but the light is still so far away,
shining high beyond the heavenly dome,
reaching its turquoise hands down
into my dark world,
as if it wants to tear all the darkness from my heart.
Lord, how beautiful it is to look into this light
up through the eyes of the sky,
and dream,
because when you watch through the eyes of the sky,
dreams cannot be dark.
And while the shadows silently march the paths of darkness down there
the silver soldiers march up the heavenly paths of light.
I want to be touched by their bright hand,
but all I feel is the touch of shadows, silence and darkness,
and I watch up to the sky through the eyes of a shadow,
but my star
(wise men say that each man has his star)
is scattering golden notes from a heavenly harp
along my dark paths,
so I might walk the path of light someday;
so I might take of my dark suit someday,
the suit that makes me so invisible in the eyes of the world,
and to voice myself as a man,
not like a shadow.
Perhaps I might become visible to the eyes of that woman,
the woman from the most beautiful love poems,
whose eyes are so close to my heart,
so familiar to my dreams,
so familiar
that I know them better than my own shadow.
Yes, life, she might become reality
if I keep on looking at you through the eyes of the sky,
yes, life, it’s beautiful to see through the eyes of the sky.
