The ME inside
by Muralidharan Mudaliar
Stares at me
Mocks at my effort
Teases me to try
Scorns spurious raising
And sees thru my feints
Watches the darkness
And searches for me..
But the teeming brain never spans
Only the void yawns on
And there’ never never a word
All the wind that wails
All the slashing rains
And all the storm that breaks
Never breaks the stillness
Of that inner silence
That sits still
Watching the darkness
Thru all the fury and the fret
And says
Never never word
I call on the silence
In varied names
In varied colours
And in varied moods
But the silence sits on
In patience
Watching the darkness
And there’ never never a word
All that fury
And all that rage
Never moves ME inside
To scrawl a single line
The paper remains the paper
White as ever
Like the whites of my eyes
Watching the mirror
Only I seethe within
And there’s
never never a word
